Shane van Gisbergen delivered one of the most dominant campaigns in Supercars history during the 2022 season, securing his third Supercars Championship in commanding fashion. Driving the #97 Red Bull Ampol Racing Holden Commodore, van Gisbergen claimed a record-breaking 21 race victories, 26 podium finishes, and wrapped up the championship with a round to spare on the Gold Coast. His relentless speed, consistency and race craft made 2022 one of the finest seasons ever produced by a Supercars driver.
The season began with an emphatic victory at the Sydney SuperNight, where a bold Red Bull Ampol Racing strategy saw van Gisbergen win by almost 20 seconds. From there, he built momentum with victories at Albert Park, Townsville, The Bend, Sandown, Pukekohe and the Gold Coast, repeatedly demonstrating exceptional speed in both dry and wet conditions. Over the second half of the season, he won 11 of 13 races, transforming a competitive championship battle into a dominant title campaign.
The crowning achievement came at the 2022 Bathurst 1000, where van Gisbergen and co-driver Garth Tander mastered the Great Race to deliver victory for Red Bull Ampol Racing. It was van Gisbergen’s second Bathurst 1000 triumph and Holden’s final Bathurst victory before the Gen3 era, making it one of the most memorable wins of his career.
