2023 SVG RACE WORN BOOT

SVG’s 2023 season marked his final full-time Supercars campaign. He remained in championship contention until the final round, ultimately finishing runner-up in the championship. The season highlight came with victory at the Bathurst 1000, where he and Richie Stanaway conquered The Mountain to secure van Gisbergen’s third Bathurst crown before his move to NASCAR in 2024.

Shane van Gisbergen’s 2023 campaign marked the end of an extraordinary chapter with Red Bull Ampol Racing and his final season as a full-time Supercars driver in Australia. Racing the new Gen3 Chevrolet Camaro, the three-time champion claimed five race victories and remained in contention for a fourth championship until the season-ending Adelaide 500, ultimately finishing runner-up in the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship.

A defining highlight came at the Bathurst 1000, where van Gisbergen and fellow New Zealander Richie Stanaway delivered a commanding victory on The Mountain. Winning by almost 20 seconds, the pair secured van Gisbergen’s third Bathurst 1000 crown and Triple Eight Race Engineering’s tenth victory in the Great Race. The result also kept van Gisbergen firmly in the championship battle as the season moved into its final rounds on the Gold Coast and in Adelaide.

Van Gisbergen arrived at the Adelaide finale still mathematically capable of winning the title, trailing Brodie Kostecki by 131 points with 300 available. His championship challenge ended following a first-lap accident in Saturday’s race, but he completed the year second in the standings—closing his full-time Australian Supercars career as a three-time champion, three-time Bathurst winner and one of the category’s most accomplished drivers before moving to NASCAR in 2024.
