“First off, it was amazing to be part of the team and see how it all operates being my first time around with Red Bull Ampol Racing here at Bathurst. Unfortunately, yeah, as the weekend went on it probably got a bit more clear that our car didn’t quite have the speed for myself or Broc to be where we wanted to be – up the front competing with the other guys who were putting down pace.
So that was a bit disappointing.”
“I think we made a decent step forward come the race and I was first in the car so just kind of settled in for what we knew was going to be a long, long day. As it went on we saw the way tyres were blistering and things like that, so I just tried to look after the car. Then unfortunately, in my last stint, something happened with the front brake pads and basically felt like I had no front brakes at all.”
“That I just had to manage through the stint – you don’t want to push too hard with something like that instead of getting it back safely so the crew can take a look at it, sort the issue out. I managed the car and annoyingly gave up a lot of track time and positions until we came in, fixed it, got back out there and got our speed back.”
“A little bit of a frustrating Sunday.”

“Obviously, massive day. You know, to come second was awesome!”
“I really thought after the first stint we had a better car and could have actually fought for the win, but unfortunately Brodie’s car was just so fast with him behind the wheel and when it got up and going it really got going – hard to catch and harder to pass, and I tried to hold it off too which he got me in the end.”
“Tough day but it’s a bit of a bittersweet one. All you want to do is win Bathurst, but we ended up coming out of this week with the Enduro Cup, the points that go with that leading in to the Finals, and we’re fourth in the Championship now which is where we wanted to be after what was not an ideal start to the season up until Ipswich.”
“We’ve set ourselves up really well here for the Finals, for the Gold Coast. We’re going back to Brisbane now for a week then heading down the M1 to somewhere where we know how to race fast and race well – we’re going to have a crack at this Championship!”
| Scott Pye, #888 Co-Driver “Today, I felt amazing, honestly. Then again all weekend I’ve felt amazing, I thought the car was great, it felt ready.” “Started the race and got off to a good start, but then during it really had some issues with blistering tyres which I think the #88 had as well. That’s probably where our race came undone for a bit there – we had good speed and were strong late in shifts but that’s a big thing to manage a tyre issue like that.” “Stoked to come away with second… three time runner up though now at Bathurst and it’s starting to hurt a bit! So it just makes me even hungrier to come back here in the future with this amazing team and try and get the W.” “Enduro Cup win, we got that locked in today with that second place which is great for us and great for Will with the way the Finals go now. So I’m proud of that, proud to contribute to Will’s Championship again.” “Excited to see this team going to the Finals and excited to see what they can do.” “Again, huge thank you to the Red Bull Ampol Racing family – it’s been a big week, a lot of hard work and tuning over the race weekend. Huge thank you to Cauchi as well – we’ve gone from sharing a house together back in 2012 to doing a Bathurst 1000 together this year which was really good fun. Really enjoyed this year with the team – stoked to finish the season on the podium with Will.” |
