Sandown Top Ten Snaps

Sandown had all the makings of a blockbuster weekend – awesome looking cars, sweet retro kit and bright sunshine on race day. But with some dodgy qualifying and two flat tyres, the dream suddenly unraveled before our eyes. It may be painful, but let’s cast said eyes back over the weekend and our top 10 favourite snaps.

Dream Team

The Triple Eight fam looked on point for the Sandown 500 retro round. Even if we say so ourselves!

Gone fishin’

The heavens opened to leave Friday’s three practice sessions pretty much useless.

Blue steel

The return of the retro flat cap meant Jamie was all too keen to get his pose on.

#Blessed

Matt Campbell for Red Bull Holden Racing Team at the Sandown 500

Not only did Matty Campbell absolutely kill it behind the wheel, he’s pretty damn humble too.

Two wheelin’

Jamie Whincup and Paul Dumbrell of Red Bull Holden Racing Team at the Sandown 500

Those Sandown kerbs don’t make for a smooth ride.

Say cheese!

Roland Dane of Triple Eight Race Engineering and Red Bull Holden Racing Team at the 2017 Sandown 500

You’d better believe it, folks, that’s a real smile from RD caught on camera.

Movember came early

Mark Dutton of Triple Eight Race Engineering and Red Bull Holden Racing Team at the Sandown 500

Dutto took the retro look to a whole new level with this questionable facial hair. Sadly (or not, depending on which side of the fence you’re sitting) he bailed on Sunday and it was off before the race.

Dramatic skies

Shane van Gisbergen of Red Bull Holden Racing Team during the Wilson Security Sandown 500, at the Sandown International Motor Raceway, Melbourne, Victoria, September 15, 2017.

In case you couldn’t tell, this was taken on Friday. When it rained. A lot.

Human pretzels

Driver changes mean one thing – it’s enduro season! The drivers have to be flexible anyway, but with the new leg protection they pretty much become human pretzels to get in and out of the car at speed.

Well, that blows

Okay, this isn’t one of our favourite memories, but it’s a good photo. Let’s just leave it at that.
