Our home track is here to stay! We’d heard whispers that a new deal was signed but this morning, with the help of Jamie Whincup and Triple Eight TeamVortex teammate Craig Lowndes, the Ipswich City Council announced a new 10 year deal with Supercars to continue racing at Queensland Raceway.
Along with the new deal, there will also be a redevelopment of the circuit and facilities – we may not be able to call it the “paperclip” anymore.
“Guaranteeing that we’ve still got our home track for 10 years to come is fantastic,” said Whincup.
“The plan is to improve the facility. Not only for the drivers is the track going to get better, but all the facilities for every fan who goes out to watch us race this weekend and on will have a better facility and complex to enjoy the sport, so well done to the local Council and local Government. We’ll make sure we put on a good show!”
The Council is planning a $52.3million redevelopment for Ipswich Motorsport Park, which will see an extended track layout, new pit garages and corporate facilities and vastly improved amenities for all fans, along with new spectator areas, with the aim to lift Ipswich to an improved standard for international motorsport events.
The redevelopment of the Ipswich Motorsport Park is set to commence within two years and take approximately 18 months to complete.
Jamie continued, “I won’t be driving in 10 years but I’ll certainly be involved in the sport for a long time so I’ll look forward to seeing this 10 year plan come into play.”
