LIVE DIARY: AGP 2018 SUNDAY

1530 We quickly caught the drivers before they escaped (catching them is an art form, honestly) to find out how they went:

Jamie Whincup – Car #1
Race 4 – Third
ChampionshipSixth (379 points)

“Today was sweet and sour, I’m massively disappointed with the last race, I muffed the start and the lights must’ve went right on the two seconds and I was just not ready. I expect more from myself to be honest. The car was okay but certainly not the quickest today. Overall, to come home with the Larry Perkins Trophy for the first time is fantastic. It was a great effort by everyone in the team to end up where we are at the end of the second round of the championship this year. We’ll keep the head down, there’s plenty of work to do behind the scenes to fix the car but we’ll slowly chip away and get there.”

Shane van Gisbergen – Car #97
Race 4 – 13th
ChampionshipFirst (486 points)

“We had some good battles today, but starting from the car park I couldn’t see the start lights, which sucked and actually made a big gap to the pack at turn one, so I played it safe and then started picking them off after that. We had some really awesome battles coming through, I passed a lot of cars and then unfortunately the safety car cut the race short. I’d saved my tyres actually passing people, so it kind of hurt us a bit because we still had very good pace. I think we had a really troublesome weekend on the first two days and then we got the car better. It didn’t fix our qualifying results, but I think we salvaged a good weekend, minimised the points loss and I think we’re still ahead in the championship by a small amount. We did a good job from race one onwards.”

1500 All in all a good weekend for JDub who collected the most points overall to claim the inaugural Larry Perkins Trophy.

1415 Another podium for the crew! After slipping up on the start line, JDub managed to hold P3 for the quick race which was interrupted by an unwelcome safety car (nobody likes a safety car in these races). SVG started dead last and was clawing him way back, until the safety car came out and he lost all rhythm. With just one lap to go after the safety car, SVG had to settle for P13 behind our mate Lowndesy.

1300 We are nearly there for our final race of the weekend. JDub starts from pole and SVG will start from dead last. Anything could happen 😉

1200 The sun is shining, let’s hope it sticks around… We don’t need anymore rain.

1115 It was great to see you all at our last merchandise store visit today, thanks for coming.

1000 We are about to talk a wander down the Melbourne Walk, normally for the F1 drivers but we have been given the opportunity to take a stroll and meet the waiting fans.
