Live Diary: Bathurst 1000 Saturday

6:00pm – We had a quick chat with the boys to see how they’re feeling after today, heading into the big day tomorrow:

Jamie Whincup – Car #88
“We would have loved to find some gains in practice this morning but we didn’t get there. Effectively, we’re still in the same position we’ve been in all weekend, which is lacking overall pace. There’ll be massive changes going on tonight to try and find that pace, we’re basically changing everything ahead of tomorrow’s race.”

Paul Dumbrell – Car #88 Co-Driver
“It’s been a tough day, we struggled yesterday when we didn’t make the shootout. We were hoping to redeem ourselves in practice this morning but we are still probably lacking a fair bit to be honest. We’ve got a fair bit of work to do overnight. Tomorrow is a long race and it’s looking to be wet – you very rarely wish for wet weather but we are because of where we’re at with our car. It’s anyone’s race so it’s going to be really exciting tomorrow.”

Shane van Gisbergen – Car #97
“In practice this morning we focused on keeping the car comfortable and it has been getting progressively better throughout the day. Matt (Campbell) also got a lot of laps in and he did really well. The Top Ten Shootout was pretty good because it’s the fastest I’ve been around Mount Panorama in a Supercar, so all in all we’re feeling ready to go for the race tomorrow.”

Matty Campbell – Car #97 Co-Driver
“It was a fantastic job by Shane (van Gisbergen) in the Top Ten Shootout this afternoon. We have worked pretty hard on the car over the whole weekend and to be starting better than where were at the beginning of the weekend is a great result. It’s a long race tomorrow so qualifying P5 isn’t too bad and now we have a long day ahead of us tomorrow.”

5:30pm – SVG is released for his shootout and he records a 2:04.6688 to qualify P5 tomorrow. Car #88 didn’t race the Top Ten Shootout and starts from P11 for the Great Race.

4:30pm – Not at Bathurst? We grabbed J-Dub and asked him to do a quick tour of the paddock for all of you at home…

3:50pm – We’re heading down to the garages for a live Facebook tour with J-Dub… Stay tuned!

2:30pm – Back down the mountain for another signing appearance – the ink sure is running low today!

1:15pm – Up to the top of the mountain for our annual campsite BBQ! J-Dub, SVG and Matty on the snags… Lowndesy and Richo couldn’t be seen with the tongs – too busy taking photos with fans.

12:45pm – Another autograph session with our fans!

11:30am – The Sandman coming out for her daily spin… She’s a little bit popular!

11:10am – Practice 6 completed. Shane and Matty had a few drivers changes and kept up their speed to finish P3 while J-Dub finished P7. Not long until our next autograph session at 12.15pm outside our garages, hope to see you there!

7:30am – Pit stop practice underway!
