6:00pm – Shane and Jamie tell us how their Saturday at QR went down:
JW:
“What could go wrong did go wrong! It was one to forget today. In qualifying the car wasn’t that speedy, which is only our fault. Then I got a five-position grid penalty. Cauchi (David Cauchi, Race Engineer) and I were just sort of umming and ahing on the merge, we thought Moff (James Moffat) was going to give us some space in pit lane, but he was obviously racing pretty hard for track position in qualy. Anyway, we ended up touching, so a five-spot grid penalty. I got a good start, the car was good, but then the pit stop killed it, rookie error. We went back to almost last and that’s where we stayed. It’s how you bounce back from these things though and we’ll come back fighting tomorrow.”
SVG:
“We didn’t qualify too bad, we were getting closer and closer. We got within a tenth and a half but it’s amazing at the moment how tight it is, that was seventh. We knew we had a good car, we just had to come up with a strategy to get further up the front. We saw everyone peeling off early so decided to go a few laps longer and made for a pretty exciting race at the end.”
5:30pm – Well, talk about the highs and lows of motorsport! Shane saw red and charged to p3, unfortunately for Jamie it just wasn’t his day. With a 5 grid place penalty for an infringement in qualifying he started from p14. When it rains it pours, an unfortunate spike issue in his pit stop dropped him to the back of the field 🙁 Tomorrow Jamie, tomorrow.
1:50pm – The grid for race 1 is set, Shane will be starting from 7th and Jamie in 9th. It’s a long 120km race so plenty of racing ahead.
1:10pm – It’s nearly qualy time – let’s go team!
11:50am – That’s practice done. P16 for JW but he didn’t have any green tyres to set a flyer. SVG had a set and he finished up P4. Now it’s time to get serious – qualifying up next in just under 2 hours.
10:30am – Triple Eight’s first pole at QR came via Whincup in 2007 – this was his first championship pole of his Supercars career.
9:00am – We’re over catching up with our awesome T8M8s in our Members Zone – best seats in the house may we add!
7:25am – How does one thaw out on a chilly Ipswich morning? Pit stop practice of course!
6:30am – Time to get down to business. Who’s watching trackside?
