Shane van Gisbergen – Car #97

“I feel like we have been working so hard, and today it has paid off. Today was flawless, we had been lacking a little, but we pushed forward hard and the results show it. I haven’t felt that aggressive for awhile, the car felt great, it was awesome racing. It got pretty full-on at the end there. We need to keep working hard, RD (Roland Dane, Team Owner) is putting the pressure on for us to succeed, so I’m stoked that we could do that today. We need to continue to be consistent, that’s how we got the championship last year, so we need to keep this up.”

Jamie Whincup – Car #88

“Obviously I am rapt with the team. We have worked really hard. I feel bad not being 100 per cent, but to be honest, I am gutted with car 88, I did everything to get across that line first. I pushed as hard as I could to be in that box seat. Safety car at the wrong time, dirt on the track, the car was loose on the restart, what could go wrong did go wrong. We didn’t win the race, I haven’t won a race this year and it is starting to get on my nerves. We have the potential, we need to get there.”

11:35am – Awesome qualy session in the RBHRT garage, Jamie starting at the front of the grid in P2 with teammate SVG in P3.

9:12am – Qualy ready? Sure are.

Race 1 – Eighth
Jamie Whincup – Car #88

“A good day of racing if you ask me. It’s nice to go hard the whole race. We were flat stick the whole time. It’s a grippy track out there also, so I was having some fun. I feel like we maximised our qualy position well, but ultimately again we need more speed. The car feels great and we have a good strategy behind us, but in order for us to get that top spot, we just need to be faster. It was a great battle with Fabian (Coulthard), I am looking forward to another one tomorrow.”

Shane van Gisbergen – Car #97

“It didn’t go very well for us today. We had the car that had the potential, but I had a terrible start which ruined it. We then got some pace that saw me make my way up the front again, then we had a mistake at the pit stop. It is a shame, but these things happen. I then found myself caught behind people, and I lost a lot of time with them blocking. It was good racing, but other people managed to pit and jump us. So to come in eighth isn’t good enough for a car that had the potential for a podium. We just need to get everything right, then we will be in the fight tomorrow.”

1:45pm – Side by side! SVG quaifies in P3 with JW in P4. The teammates will be next to eachother on the grid.

11:45am – The final practice session of the weekend see’s SVG in P3 and JW in P24. We head into qualy next.

PRACTICE WRAP

Jamie Whincup – Car #88
Practice 1 – 12th (Fastest Lap: 1:44.4733)
Practice 2 – Eighth (Fastest Lap: 1:30.7129)Shane van Gisbergen – Car #97
Practice 1 – Fifth (Fastest Lap: 1:43.9062)
Practice 2 –  14th (Fastest Lap: 1:31.3936)
Jamie Whincup – Car #88

“Tough day condition-wise, confusing, to be honest. The track is wet, then it dries, then it’s wet again. We made a lot of changes, it’s just a matter of analysing it properly. We really needed a dry Friday, as we have never been competitive here in the dry. We have a lot to work on, the wet wasn’t ideal, but it’s all part of motorsport, we will just take an educated guess tomorrow based on the conditions. Bit of work to do overnight. ”

Shane van Gisbergen – Car #97

“The first session was really good. We learnt a lot and made some progress, however that last session the conditions changed too much, so I think we went backward. I think we should take what we learned in the first session into tomorrow. The weather is unpredictable, but it should be a better day tomorrow. The car felt OK, we were competitive, so it is hard to say what we need to do overnight. When the track started to dry out other people started to go faster, so it’s hard to know. We are hoping for a dry practice tomorrow.”

1:30pm – It’s a wet one out on the track – SVG finished in P5, JW P12.

12:21pm –  All of us at Red Bull Holden Racing Team wish the champ, Nicky Hayden, a swift recovery. All the best, mate, our thoughts are with you, your family and friends. #GoNicky

Get well soon Nicky Hayden

12:13pm – What’s good Winton? #us #thatswhatsgood

11:19am – How can we not rave about Lowndesy? s rare that describing a race driver as going nowhere fast is a good thing, but Craig Lowndes is an exception to that rule – and plenty of others besides. Earlier this week, the ageless 42-year-old signed a new two-year deal with Triple Eight Race Engineering to ensure his Supercars tenure extends to a 23rd season in 2019 – and he might not stop there either. Read more about his re-signing to the team HERE.

9:00am – Proud parents right here. Our girl Romy Mayer is this week’s Supercars “Unsung hero” (we actually sing her praises ALL the time!)

11:58am – Fast Fact – Triple Eight has taken a total of 8 Winton championship race wins – tied for the record at the circuit with Dick Johnson Racing – though there have been no wins here since 2012.
