Lowndesy joins the Red Bull Flying Bulls

Completing his quick trip to Austria, the three-time V8 Supercars champ visited the iconic Hangar-7 in Salzburg, Austria which houses the historical Flying Bulls aircraft fleet and a collection of Formula One race cars.

The man with the biggest smile in V8 Supercars is in Europe ahead of his maiden Spa 24 Hour endurance race entry in Belgium this weekend.

Topping of the experience, Craig took to the skies in the Bell ‘Cobra’ TAH-1F, a helicopter which sits in the Flying Bulls fleet. The Cobra helicopter owned by the Flying Bulls can hit top speeds of more than 350km/h and travels at an average speed of 300km/h.

“I was a little bit nervous to begin with because I’m used to having my feet planted on the ground with four wheels,” he said.

Lowndes was able to exercise his appreciation for any engine-powered vehicle, taking advantage of the Cobra’s tandem cockpit in the flight over Salzburg.

“They even allowed me to fly a little bit across the mountains and it was incredibly easy to manoeuvre.

“The whole chopper was sensitive to the slightest movement especially ‘the stick’, much like it is in the race car.”
