Broc Feeney stepped into one of the most demanding seats in Supercars in 2022, replacing seven-time champion Jamie Whincup in the #88 Red Bull Ampol Racing Holden Commodore. At just 19 years old, he faced enormous expectations as he joined Triple Eight alongside reigning champion Shane van Gisbergen. Rather than being overwhelmed, Feeney quickly established himself as one of the sport’s brightest young talents.
After a challenging opening round, Feeney’s confidence grew rapidly. At Symmons Plains, he claimed his maiden Supercars podium with a second-place finish behind van Gisbergen, proving he could compete with the category’s best. He continued to build momentum throughout the season, adding another podium at Sandown and consistently running at the front as he adapted to full-time Supercars competition.
For the Bathurst 1000, Feeney partnered the man he had replaced, Jamie Whincup, in one of the event’s most anticipated combinations. The pair delivered a strong performance to finish fifth, giving Feeney an impressive result in his first Bathurst as a full-time Supercars driver.
The breakthrough came at the Adelaide 500 finale, where Feeney claimed his maiden Supercars victory after a composed drive under pressure. The win also marked the final championship race victory for the Holden Commodore, making it a fitting end to the iconic model’s Supercars history.
Feeney finished his rookie season sixth in the championship with one race win and three podiums. It was an outstanding debut campaign that showcased his speed, maturity and ability to thrive under pressure, laying the foundation for the championship success that would follow.
