Stoner Rolls On

Casey Stoner will complete his first ever V8 Supercars race weekend on Saturday with race two of the Dunlop Series Adelaide event.

Having started in 12th and made his way into the top-10 with four laps in Friday’s race one, Stoner’s V8 debut got off to a flying start before a flat-spotted tyre saw the MotoGP champion’s efforts thwarted.

While he was unable to complete the race, the No.27 Red Bull Pirtek Holden will take its place on the grid at 12.45pm Saturday, with Stoner behind the wheel.

“I was really happy with start and the first few laps but then I locked up big time going into the last corner – not what everybody saw on TV because that was later,” Stoner said.

“Then I started to drop back and tried to save the tyres to make sure I could finish the race but it kept locking up here and there without any kind of brakes. And then it got too much of a flat spot and it popped on me coming through turn three. And once it burst, I was in for a ride.

The 27-year-old put it down as a learning experience.

“I’ve definitely learned not to keep going around with that much vibration in it,” a jovial Stoner said.

“But in general, I absolutely had a ball those first few laps. Everybody was really good to race around and you know, you can touch panels and not go down so I actually really enjoyed it.”

There is a point of contention for race officials to discuss overnight, with the start of the race seemingly jumped by some cars with a lights malfunction confusing the field.
