Lowndesy and Luffy claim the Pirtek Enduro Cup

RED Bull Racing Australia’s Craig Lowndes had a handful of victories today as he brought home the Pirtek Enduro Cup with co-driver Warren Luff as well as maintaining his lead in the V8 Supercars Championship, 6 points ahead of teammate Jamie Whincup.

On a typically steamy Gold Coast day, the No.888 duo managed to negotiate their VF Commodore through a maze of safety cars and on track carnage.

“It was one of those days with near misses for everybody,” Lowndes said.

“With a bit of good fortune and luck we managed to finish strong, get those crucial championship points and hold onto our lead.

“To bring home the Pirtek Enduro Cup is an incredible feeling and full credit to Luffy and all of the team for making that happen.”

After co-driver Paul Dumbrell’s initial stint, Whincup rounded out the top-four battle pack with race winner David Reynolds, Fabian Coulthard and Russell Ingall. It was a milestone race for Whincup marking his 300th race start in the ATCC/V8 Supercars Championship.

“Overall I’m feeling a mix of emotions,” Whincup said.

“We lost a few spots there somewhere. The car was reasonable, it was really just a matter of who wanted to jump the kerbs the most. I wasn’t prepared to jump as much kerb as most other people.

“The more risk you take, the faster you go, all in all though we came away with some good points so looking forward to Phillip Island in a month’s time.”

The next round of the V8 Supercars championship will be at Phillip Island 23 – 24 November.
