#88 Challenges for Hometown Win, Both Bulls Through to Sandown Round of Finals

Gold Coast 500 – Qualifying, Top Ten Shootout and Race 29 Results

Will Brown – Car #1

Qualifying (Race 29) – 18th
Race 29 – 8th

“Qualifying, disappointing. It got us again today. It’s been something all season, qualifying, and we’ve had to fight back from it in the race.
So disappointing the qualifying result, disappointing not to make the shootout.”

“But we went in with a fast car. We knew that from earlier in the weekend.
So it was just about getting on with it. Started the race in that middle pack area and starting there around here is always going to be dangerous with the chicane and with the corners. Today was probably different because you’ve got maybe some desperate guys out there trying to make the Finals.
But we pushed on, moved up through and made up a few spots around the stops, which was good.”

“Car felt good. Ended up where we ended up and that was good enough to seal our ticket to Sandown, which is great.”

“Dropped a few points in the Championship but excited to be there, excited to be going to Sandown where obviously we were fast and did well last year. So we’ll go back to the workshop, sit down, go through this weekend and debrief, get ready for the next one and hopefully come out, qualify well, race well.”

“Massive effort from the whole team this weekend especially the guys on my car, we were in some situations and they got us out of it, gave me a car to drive, thankful to the team and good to get the result for them, good to stay in the Finals hunt”.

Top Ten Shootout (Race 29) – 1st (1:09.1986)
Race 29 – 2nd

“Look, it was a good day today, it was really good. Rolled out really strong this morning, sort of top two or three cars once again, similar to yesterday, and then I did an awesome shootout lap to put it on pole.”

“To get pole around home is really special and to do it here where it’s just such a high commitment lap was awesome. So, pole by two tenths in the shootout, happy with that.
We had a really good run, and to get to fifteen polls for the year is really special.”

“Then the race, the first two-thirds of it when really smooth, got out in the lead and sort of kept the guys behind me. Built a bit of a lead of about two seconds over Chaz. We just weren’t fast enough in pit lane today, to be honest. They probably short filled a little bit a few garages down, then just Chaz did a little bit of fuel saving in that last stint, but they seemed a bit quicker in pit lane. So a bit for us to look at there.”

“It is disappointing to not come away with a win, I felt like we deserved it today,
we were probably the fastest car, but we had a crack at the end, drove back to him. Then the safety car, after that we left it all out on the table. I had a crackdown at turn eleven, used the wall as a bit of brake and Chazzy’s rear bar too. He closed the door on me pretty hard, but it was hard racing, overall plenty to be proud of this weekend, but just disappointed to not walk away with the win.”

“The goal was definitely to lead the points going into Sandown and we’ve managed to do that. So, once again, a phenomenal job from the team to have us in this position. The past few years here we’ve not had a great year, out of the three tracks that are in the Finals I’d say Gold Coast has probably been our weakest in history. So can’t wait to get back to Sandown and just hopefully put us in a good position to go to Adelaide and be in the hunt.”
