Feeney Locks in Sandown Spot With Second, Brown Fights Back From Big Shootout Shunt to Fifth

Gold Coast 500 – Qualifying, Top Ten Shootout and Race 28 Results

Will Brown – Car #1

Qualifying (Race 28) – 5th (1:08.6367)
Top Ten Shootout (Race 28) – 10th (No Time Set)
Race 28 – 5th

“Obviously disappointing that Top Ten Shootout, because I really thought we had a good shot at poll after the practice pace we had and how the car felt. You don’t think about it mid lap but went purple in the first sector of my lap. Then I made a mistake, which I’m really sorry to the guys and girls at Red Bull Ampol Racing because they gave me a mega car, but massive thank you to everyone that got the car fixed and got me back out there.”

“For the race everyone was lining up on the grid and I’m still sitting in the garage. We got out there with one minute to go before it would’ve been a very different story and starting position probably. It was just an awesome job by the team and really happy to repay them with a top five finish.”

“We started strongly then got turned around on the first couple of laps, straight to the back, then I really thought maybe best case scenario was finishing fifteenth… or worse. To get back up to fifth has really helped us in the Finals system. Good effort today, we can build on that result tomorrow, take out the mistakes and focus on the pace.”

Broc Feeney – Car #88

Qualifying (Race 28) – 9th (1:08.8616)
Top Ten Shootout (Race 28) – 2nd (1:09.2019)
Race 28 – 2nd

“We were pretty strong this morning. We obviously probably didn’t end up where we wanted in practice, but we were sort of top two or three for the first part of qualifying, then I made a mistake on my green run and that ruins it around here. Had us sitting back in P9 but we could’ve gone another lap to set a faster time. Then Brodie had a big one, caused the red flag, and I was still only P9 at the time.
That shut down the session and we got through so got away with one there.”

“Pace was good, was feeling good in the car going in to the Top Ten Shootout, did a good lap to move up from P9 to P2 so what we knew was there in the car came out in that lap.”

“To be honest I think I had a good race. Got into the lead early due to Ryan (Wood) having some issues, so unfortunate for him. Going along in first and felt pretty good. Just so many safety cars through that middle part, and that’s where I struggled in that mid part of the race and I don’t understand why it felt the way it did. Need to go away and have a look at that.”

“Then Chaz was there, he had so much speed. We weren’t going to beat him today. Even though that last stint felt pretty good we weren’t going to touch Chaz, it was more about chasing down the guys on that different strategy knowing they’d be conserving at the end or nursing. Overall a good day, the best we could’ve gotten was probably P2 and we did that. On to tomorrow.”
