In the championship’s first wet races since Sandown 2011, Red Bull Racing Australia claimed two third-placed finishes.
Craig took the honours in the first race at the Sydney Motorsport Park 400 in a race that started in torrential rain, but cleared midway to leave the track drying towards the end.
“It was great to be on the podium at this track and get those crucial points,” he said.
Qualifying for race 26 of the championship was the highlight of the day though as Jamie, who eventually finished fourth, claimed his 58th career pole, which saw him break Peter Brock’s long-standing record for most pole positions in the sport’s history.
“I’m certainly proud that today was a record-breaker with the most pole positions for the category,” JDub said.
“I really enjoy that side of the sport and I’m happy to have racked up the milestone. On the flip side you can’t compare the past to the present because it’s different eras and ball games but I’m proud of what I’ve been able to achieve.”
In a drama-packed second race, Lowndesy came charging through the field to finish 11th, having started 21st after an error in qualifying, while Jamie kept life interesting at the head of the pack, trading places with his fellow frontrunners throughout.
“The qualifying for race two was driver error when I came off the track and we just didn’t have enough time to go back out and have another crack at it,” Craig said.
“All in all we were really happy and we had a good, strong race gaining ten positions in race two. Our car handled well in the wet conditions but we’ll still be looking for a little bit of improvement. Tomorrow we’ll be looking to the weather as the biggest factor and we’ll be looking for all the grip we can get.”
Qualifying for tomorrow’s 200km race kicks off at 12.40pm, with the race itself starting at 3.45pm. Check out the broadcast times here.
