Bulls aim to Thrill in the ‘Ville

Move over Cowboys, Townsville has a new favorite team in town!

That’s right, the Supercars circus is touching down in FNQ, and boy are we excited!

The streets of Townsville have been a happy hunting ground for the team over the past 13-seasons, and like the Mad Cow Tavern on a Saturday night, we’re hoping the champagne bottles get a fair workout this weekend.

For current Championship leader, Shane ‘SVG’ van Gisbergen, a return to longer-format racing will be the real test for the team this weekend.

“I’m really looking forward to Townsville this weekend, it’s going to be awesome,” he said.

“We’ve got two 250-kilometer races each day which is going to be super tough in the Townsville heat, but it will give us some good laps ahead of the double-header the weekend after.

“The track is super tough especially for setups. It is half a normal racing track and half a street track so it’s always a compromise. The big curbs make it fun and the cars are always cool to watch with the attitude over them.

“In all honesty, my aim for the weekend is to have two good races, and bank as many points as I can. It’s a great track with some really cool fans there.”

2021 will mark the last year Townsvillians will see Jamie ‘JDub’ Whincup race on home soil as a full-time driver. As heartbreaking as this sounds, let’s hope JDub can add to his record 12-wins at Reid Park.

“Townsville is an event I’ve always liked; I love the track and the people. They’re true-blue fans up in Far North Queensland,” JDub said.

“You feel good when you’re up there, and it puts you in a really good head space which gives you an even better advantage.

“We came in with a bang from day one and managed to get the win at the very first race, and since then the event has been very good for us. The event is always fresh and exciting, and I can’t wait to get up there.”
