The Gold Coast 600 has got off to a promising start with both Red Bull Racing Australia Holdens finding strong pace over the course of today’s four practice sessions.
Lowndesy and Richo were setting the pace during the first two sessions, Craig finishing second in the first and his co-driver topping the time sheets in the second.
“We were really happy with the car setup by the end of the day,” Craig said. “It’s a very forgiving car which is exactly what you need around this circuit.”
Practice three, the second of the two sessions exclusive to co-drivers, saw Richo do a race run in the No.888 Commodore, while the final session was dedicated to making changes and finding the perfect setup for tomorrow’s qualifying: “Overnight we’ll be looking to find that little extra something to post our best possible qualifying lap tomorrow. The track now has tyre bundles, which is a new addition this year, so we’re all trying to find the fine line between triggering the sensor and not.”
On the other side of the garage, Jamie and PD have finished the day satisfied with the progress of the No.1 Holden and confident that they have a good car to take on the challenge of this gruelling street circuit tomorrow.
“I’m happy with how the car rolled out of the truck today,” JDub said. “We made the gains we were after over the course of the day and the car is comfortable to drive which is the main thing. We didn’t show our true pace today after triggering some sensors during our fastest lap which is a promising position to be in.”
“They’ve done a good job working on the street circuit here at the Gold Coast and upgrading the chicanes, I’m a big fan of the tyre bundles because it means we all get to race hard which is more exciting for both the drivers and the fans, especially for our home race.”
While the action has been hotting up on the Gold Coast, Red Bull Racing Australia has hit a digital milestone by becoming the first V8 Supercars team to amass over one million fans on Facebook.
“It’s always special here at our home race with our home crowd so to also reach a milestone of a different kind with one million fans on Facebook is exciting and I’m proud to be a part of that,” Lowndesy said.
Tune in tomorrow from 11.35am EST for qualifying, the top 10 shootout and the first of the weekend’s races on the streets of Surfers Paradise.
