Live Diary: Auckland SuperSprint Friday

5:00pm We caught up wth the drivers post-session to see how they’re feeling:

Jamie Whincup – Car #88

“Thankfully, the rain stayed away as it was supposed to be wet all day but it just never came. It was great to get out on, what I call, the new Pukekohe circuit because there have been quite a few resurfacing changes which has completely changed the dynamic of the whole circuit. Cauchi (David Cauchi, Race Engineer) worked hard behind the scenes to make the car nice and balanced, we were there or thereabouts but we still need to go better tomorrow to stay in the top five. It’s a bit of a Ford whitewash, they’re quick around here so it’s great to be representing Holden somewhere up the front there, and hopefully we can do the same tomorrow.”

Shane van Gisbergen – Car #97

“The first session was junk, but we did some pretty good work between the sessions, worked the boys hard over the break, and straight away the car was much nicer. Then we were able to go about tuning it properly. The change we thought would be really good for the first session was just irreversible, so that was a shame, and we had to take the time to make it better. Second practice was much better, stayed on track the whole session and felt really good. We made good progress, so we’re feeling better for tomorrow.”

3:55pm A successful session with Jamie finishing P2 (1:02.7307) and Shane coming in P6 (1:02.8483).

3:10pm Practice 2 is underway! Let’s see how the guys pull up this time.
