4:45pm – Qualifying is now over and we had some good, and not so good, outcomes – Shane qualified top ten with P7 (2:05.2224) while J-Dub juuuuuust missed out placing P11 (2:05.6187).
Hear from the boys straight after the race:
Jamie Whincup – Car #88
“Qualifying was a disappointing result for us. I can’t explain it because the car feels pretty good but we’re just slow and don’t know what the issue is just yet. We should have been in the top 10 but we missed it. It’s not all doom and gloom because it’s a long race on Sunday so anything can happen. Now all our focus will be on getting the car up to scratch.”
Paul Dumbrell – Car #88 Co-Driver
“We obviously didn’t get the result we were looking for in qualifying today. If I’m looking at the silver lining, we’ll have some extra time now to put our heads down and make sure that car no.88 is competitive come Sunday.”
Shane van Gisbergen – Car #97
“It was still the same as yesterday, the boys did an awesome job overnight to fix the car after yesterday’s mistake. It felt good this morning but the handling still wasn’t great. Matty (Campbell) did a great job in his practice. We then made a massive step forward in qualifying, after we turned the car inside out after practice five, and now we’re in the shootout and anything can happen tomorrow.”
Matty Campbell – Car #97 Co-Driver
“My practice was just about getting some more laps and just doing a little bit more for Shane. We weren’t happy with the car even after Shane drove it but made lots of changes for qualifying and it went really well. I think we went really well, considering we made a lot of changes to the car – it was all very positive and Shane did a fantastic job and is the only car inside the top ten from the Triple Eight Race Engineering team.”
