Live Diary: Friday in Darwin 2018

1600 We’ve just completed our second practice session and are getting ready for some hot laps. How did the guys go today? We caught up with them here:

Jamie Whincup – Car #1
Practice 1 – Second (Fastest Time: 1:06.6223)
Practice 2 – Third (Fastest Time: 1:06.3219)

All in all the car is much better than it was at Winton. We’ve followed on well from our mid-season test day and the car is nice to drive. I’m not sure if it’s going to be quicker in qualifying and with race pace but all of the early indicators say that it should be from here, we have to keep moving forward. The car is not perfect and we still have a fair bit of refining to do but we’re much happier to be much closer to the front than we have been in other rounds. The broken splitter set us back a little bit and messed up our plan a little bit but the car is starting to feel a bit more normal now.

Shane van Gisbergen – Car #97
Practice 1 – Fifth (Fastest Time: 1:06.8062)
Practice 2Sixth (Fastest Time: 1:06.4973)

“I think it was a reasonable day for us; all three cars were good coming off of our test day and it’s great to see all of that come to fruition in practice today. We made a big change for practice two, so we’re off to a promising start but unfortunately I didn’t get a new tyre run at the end because of the yellow flags. We’ve always had fast cars but qualifying has been somewhere where we’ve needed to step up so that’ll be the big test tomorrow.”

1330 In case you missed it, here’s a photo of J-Dub relaxing in the Darwin sunset yesterday…

1250 Our first practice post-test day was a success, the driver’s felt good and noticed the car felt much better than it was in Winton so that has got to be a thumbs up! J-Dub came through in P2 while SVG was P5, not bad fellas.

1130 Just 30 minutes until go time, what will today’s session bring for us?

1030 An awesome signing session at our merchandise tents this morning – come and see us tomorrow at 0815am for another one!

0900 It’s 25 degrees but it feels like 37 at this time of the morning… We’re off to the track for our first post-test practice session to see what we can get out of the rockets.
