Lowndesy rounds Perth 400 out with podium finish

Another podium finish has rounded out a return to the front of the field for Red Bull Racing Australia as Craig claimed second in today’s 200km race.

Starting from pole, Lowndesy had a another flying start off the line, but the stronger setup of the FPR car in the hands of Chaz Mostert proved to be the winning formula.

“I’m delighted that the team managed to secure three podium finishes this weekend and then being able to round out the Perth 400 with a second today,” he said.

“It gives the whole team a boost of confidence after a tough couple of rounds and it’s encouraging for the boys in the workshop as we look forward to Darwin.

“Our car pace definitely improved as the weekend went on and our tyre life is good but we still have a little way to go. We were a little bit concerned about the unknown with stints over 28 laps and trying to keep a healthy pace and not chew up the tyre but we weren’t too bad. We left the best tyres to the end, trying to gain track position, which is incredibly important, but we couldn’t quite do it today.”

His Holden team-mate recovered two positions, having started sixth on the grid after being held up on his flying lap in qualifying, to finish the race in fourth.

“I think we maximised the car’s pace today but we just didn’t have enough to fight for the podium so we finished up in fourth,” Jamie said.

“Although we’d like to have enough pace to win, I think we did the best we could. I had a good battle with Scott McLaughlin at the start, which I hope was entertaining for the fans.

“At the end of the day we got some good points which saw us push up to fourth in the championship so it’s onwards and upwards now for SKYCITY Triple Crown in Darwin.”

While Craig remains second in the championship, 101 points adrift of the lead on 1,098, Jamie managed to claw back two positions and sits fourth (986 points) coming into the SKYCITY Triple Crown Darwin, 20-22 June.
