No pressure

We might not have won the surfboard we wanted on Sunday at the GC600, but we did get closer than anyone to the prized driver championship win.

That’s right, J-Dub is the current championship leader with just two race meets to go…

And there are just 27 points separating the three leading championship contenders, with J-Dub holding out the lead by just 17 points. Yep, the pressure is seriously there!

Except, when you’ve already got six championship titles to your name, the pressure is always there and found more so from yourself than anyone else, according to Jamie anyway.

“I feel no more pressure than I’ve had at any other event this year,” he said.

“There’s no more outside pressure than what I put on myself to do a good job.”

And with only two race wins to his name this season, J-Dub concedes it’s been a tougher year than previous.

“It’s been intense this year, although we have had plenty of hard battles in the past.”

“This year, more so than other year’s,we don’t have the car speed that we would have liked compared to our competition, so it’s really important to be smart on the run home.”

And taking calculated risks…

Especially when you’re the one getting chased, by no more than 17 points, might we add?

“You do have to take less risk, as such,” Red Bull Holden Team Manager Mark “Dutto” Dutton said.

“When you’re chasing you’ve got less to lose then when you’ve got the championship lead and have to consolidate points.

“That said, you don’t just settle and play ultra-conservative because you do still have to try and score the most points.

“We’ll still be fighting for every race toward the end of the year.

“Our goal is to win every race, that’s how you score points.”

It’s that simple, isn’t it?! 😉

Well not really…

For J-Dub, it’s all about getting out there and having a red hot crack.

“I feel if we go easy we will get smoked, so we will prepare well and push as hard as we can to the end,” he said.

And he expects his teammate, SVG, to be with him all the way.

“We all work together all the time and I expect no different on the run home.”

Without a doubt, we’re in for an epic battle until the end.
