RBAR Takes Delivery of New Mercedes-Benz Hauler

As the team prepares for the mammoth journey across the Bass Straight for the upcoming Tasmania SuperSprint, accompanying Red Bull Ampol Racing Team’s Transporter driver, Dave ‘Pom’ Lewin, for the road trip will be the team’s brand new Mercedes-Benz Acros transporter, thanks to Team Partner, Daimler Trucks.

Prior to the over 30-hour trek down south, Jamie ‘JDub’ Whincup was on hand to collect the keys to the top-of-the-line Actros prime mover at Daimler Truck and Bus headquarters in Mulgrave, Victoria, and managed to take the rig for a quick test drive…and surprisingly, the beast was brought back in one piece.

“The cab is a real stand out. It’s really impressive how much of the technology you see in Mercedes-Benz cars is also in these trucks,” JDub said.

“These screens and the touch controls on the steering wheel are excellent, because it’s really easy to keep on top of everything.”

JDub also welcomed Daimler Trucks on board as a sponsor and supplier of the team for the 2021 season.

“We always want to work with the leaders in each field and it’s clear that Daimler Trucks is a leader with advanced trucks like this Actros,” he said.

Although JDub holds a Multi Combination Heavy Vehicle licence, steering duties will fall to Pom (for now), although maybe a future in transporter driving is on the cards for the seven-time champion post full-time Supercars racing? We won’t put any ideas in your head, JDub…
