Red Bull Racing Australia will head into Saturday at the Townsville 500 with confidence after today’s three practice sessions, despite not quite finding the car speed the team was hoping to have straight out of the box.
“We rolled out of the truck not as competitive as we would have liked today,” said Jamie, who finished 16th, 10th and fourth across the three 20 minute sessions. “But we had a good direction and things were making sense so we were able to confidently improve as the practice sessions went on.
“We were slowly chipping away and every time the car went on track we were slightly better and we were at our best at the end of the third practice session but we still have a long way to go.
“The key is to have a good direction and we’re confident we have that so it’s just up to us to catch everyone else.”
Craig posted times that saw him finish 11th, 18th and 14th on the Reid Park hybrid circuit, but is looking forward to sitting down with the team tonight and nailing the setup before tomorrow’s practice, two qualifying sessions and two 125km races.
“I think we lacked a bit of speed today so we’re a little disappointed,” he said.
“We put on a new set of tyres at the end of the third practice session and only matched our best time on the used tyres so there’s a little bit of work for us to do overnight. We’re still confident though, we’ve had a good run here the last few years so we’ll be able to turn things around.”
The fourth and final practice session of the weekend kicks off at 10:30 local time, followed by qualifying from 11:40. Check telecast times here.
