Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 Wildcard – Test Day #2
Craig Lowndes – Car #888
“It’s been another great test day for us. With the ergonomics and seat insert side of things now complete, we’ve made a big step forward. We’ve done quite a few driver changes today, both stationary and hot changes in pit lane. Declan (Fraser) has got his head around that now and I think we’ll only get better from here. The times we’re doing today are comparable to last year which is a great sign. Everyone in the team is finding their position in regards to what they do to the car, how we go through everything and what everyone’s role is in a driver change scenario, so it’s great to be able to start finalising that side of things. We had more of an opportunity to get into the setup and mechanical changes of the car which was a bonus today too. Romy (Mayer, Race Engineer) has been great on the radio, very calm and precise – I think we have a fantastic direction moving forward. It was nice to have Roland (Dane, Team Manager) around again today. Nothing’s really changed much – he’s got his little notepad out running around and taking notes, but he brings a level of experience that we need behind the scenes making sure we get everything right, and making sure we get to Bathurst with the best opportunity that we can.”
Declan Fraser – Car #888
“Our second wildcard test has been a pretty good day, and it’s great to be back in the Supercheap Auto car. The entire Triple Eight team have done a fantastic job to get the car back to speed before we head off to the mountain. We worked a lot today especially on our pit stops and longer race runs. We’ve found some time in our pit stops which I thought was going to be the biggest thing for the driver changes, but I’m super happy with what we’ve learnt today and to have Craig (Lowndes) as my mentor again is next to none. I’m very appreciative to everyone for the help and guidance they’ve been providing me, and today’s getting me even more excited for the big event.”
