Take Two in Townsville

Everyone knows good things come in pairs, and boy are we excited to head back to the streets of Townsville!

After clean sweeping the Townsville 500 last weekend, Shane ‘SVG’ van Gisbergen says there is no guarantee the team can mirror their performance, as the Red Bull Ampol Racing machines shift from long to short format races.

“Last weekend was perfect for the team – it was awesome,” SVG said.

“I don’t actually know the full format for this weekend yet, but if it’s a standard sprint format, it should be good fun.

“I think other teams will be a lot faster after having a week to evaluate their performances and come up with something better, but it’s going to be interesting.”

SVG’s comments are echoed by 12-time winner in Townsville, Jamie ‘JDub’ Whincup.

Making his final appearance at Reid Park, JDub is determined to finish this weekend strong.

“There will be many changes compared to last week, namely the setup of the cars to suit the shorter format, but at the same time we have to keep moving forward as well,” JDub said.

“Although the team had great success, if we rest on last weekend’s results, then we’ll end up getting gobbled up by our opposition. Of course, when you’re close to the limit, there’s less room for improvement, but we’ll keep cracking on.

“This is potentially my last hoorah in a supercar in Townsville, but I’m not going to each round thinking “this could be the last time I drive around this track in a supercar.” I’m sure that will hit me at the last round, but right now this weekend is another round and another battle which I’m looking forward to.”
