It’s the race that could end someone’s championship run and Jamie “J-Dub” Whincup says experience goes out the window during the Gold Coast 600.
J-Dub takes to the track this weekend 91 points behind current championship leader Fabian Coulthard and only six points ahead of Scott McLaughlin.
Rain, hail or shine things are really going to heat up this weekend as the drivers put themselves on the line to save their championship campaign.
“This round is always critical to the championship, it plays a big part. You have to finish here which is hard work within itself in a concrete canyon,” J-Dub said of the notoriously tricky street circuit.

Although he has the most championship race wins on the GC (eight) and SVG won it last year for us, we aren’t banking on experience for this one.
Especially when it comes to DJR Team Penske…
“They’re not rookies, they’re a new team so to speak, but those guys have got a lot of experience so no doubt they are very hard to beat,” said Whincup.
“While Penske is a new team for Australia, there is so much experience there with all of those guys so I honestly don’t feel like we do have an advantage.”

Having said that, J-Dub isn’t going down without a fight…
“We’ve got confidence and continuity in the Red Bull Holden Racing Team and we’ll charge and make sure we give those guys a run for their money.”
It’s anyone’s race and it could change anyone’s championship hopes in an instant. Let’s do this, Gold Coast!
