You may think the mechanical stars of Red Bull Racing Australia are the two VF Commodores that tear up the track every few weeks, but the truth is that the B-double trucks we use to transport a few million dollars’ worth of kit around the country have wings of their own thanks to Iveco Trucks Brisbane.
Enter the pair of brand new Iveco Stralis AS-L prime movers that proudly take our race cars to the tracks, our ride car to do hot laps and the Sandman to, well, just about anywhere we fancy.
With a 13 litre Cursor engine producing 560 hp and almost 2,500 Nm of torque, you’d think the Caltex fuel card would be out on the regular, but the fact is that our mate Jamie could learn a fair bit from these trucks about fuel economy. Maybe he’ll have a sit down with RBRA trucky Wazza Beames before Bathurst 2015.
Speaking of Wazza, his new Iveco ride has given him a pretty cruisy day job. Not only does the Stralis come with ZF Eurotronic II, 16 speed automated transmission and a three-way adjustable air suspended seat, it’s kitted out with full climate control and leather appointed seats.
While we could talk all day about the slick new rides parked out the front of the Triple Eight workshop – and we’re not talking about Ludo’s Ducati Hypermotard SP – we should mention the safety features too, which include ABS brakes and an Anti-Slip Regulation system (ASR) that prevents the drive wheels from spinning when accelerating on slippery roads.
To complete the look we of course needed to splash a fresh coat of DNA paint across the two prime movers in Red Bull Blue and Quicksilver, which was done by our friends at Bel Air Truck Spraypainting.
Keep an eye out for the blue and silver Red Bull Racing Australia trucks on the roads near you and don’t forget to use #redbullracingau for your photos.
