WET PRACTICE AT PHILLIP ISLAND

Rain, rain and a little more rain – that’s what greeted Red Bull Racing Australia at Phillip Island on Friday for the opening practice sessions of the weekend.

Craig and Jamie managed some dry running over the two hour-long sessions, however a majority of it was done on the wet weather Dunlop compound.

Lowndesy rounded out the day in the #888 Holden Commodore finishing P5 with a 1:36.6538 in the final session. His first hit-out at midday ended with P13 and a time of 1:32.9415.

JDub’s first run had him inside the Top-10 with a 1:32.6039 placing him in P6, however as the rain continued in the second session the best he could manage was 17th with a 1:40.4043.

Saturday at the track is going to be a big one, check out the TV guide here.

JAMIE WHINCUP (VF Holden Commodore, Car #1)

Practice One: 6th (Fastest Lap – 1:32.6039)
Practice Two: 17th (Fastest Lap – 1:40.4043)

Jamie Whincup:

“It was a wet day today and we got a little bit of dry running in for a short burst in each practice session. But a majority of it was on wet tyres. Where we are I’m pretty happy…the car is certainly in the window both in the wet and the dry. Like all Friday sessions when you don’t run fresh tyres the timesheet doesn’t tell the full story. We’re quietly happy with our day and how we went.”

CRAIG LOWNDES (VF Holden Commodore, Car #888)
Practice One: 13th (Fastest Lap – 1:32.9415)
Practice Two: 5th (Fastest Lap – 1:36.6538)

Craig Lowndes:

“The rain interrupted a bit of our program today, but at the same token we actually got some valuable wet weather running in. We didn’t lose the whole day and we able to utilise some of it. In the end I’m actually quite happy with the car. Both wet or dry we’ve got a handle on the setups come tomorrow and Sunday. Really for us it was an encouraging day and I think the car is working reasonably well. There’s some things we’d like to have finished today, but we’ve got another practice session tomorrow to finalise all that, but where we are at I’m really happy.”
