Another awesome day on track for the Red Bull Racing Australia Team.
Taking home our third double podium finish for the weekend, we have well and truly conquered Phillip Island.
Busting out our fourth and final practice session, Craig Lowndes secured P2 for qualifying with Jamie Whincup in P3.
What will go down in the books as one of the best races of the season, Lowndesy positioned himself ahead of the pack with still over 20 laps to go.
Whincup battled behind Mark Winterbottom for P3 keeping on his tail until the last lap. JDub then saw his opening, making a dive on Frosty in the last few seconds, gaining a spot on the podium.
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, we will see you for the final race meet of the season – Homebush.
JAMIE WHINCUP (VF Holden Commodore, Car #1)
Practice Four: 10th (Fastest Lap – 1:31.8343)
Qualifying Race Three: 3rd (Fastest Lap – 1:31.0035)
Race Three: 3rd
Championship: 7th (2359 PTS)
Jamie Whincup:
“Today I was on the non-preferred strategy hence why I pitted so early and was so far back. The only opportunity we had was a podium and I was 10 seconds down with 20 laps to go. I put my head down and got to Frosty on time, but following cars is hard work and I found it hard to bridge that gap for an overtake. On the last lap I thought it was all or nothing and I had a big lunge down the inside at Lukey Heights. I pulled it off so it’s happy days. Overall the weekend we had fantastic results. David Cauchi is doing a fantastic job and today I figured Frosty is going to win the war so I may as well try and win the battle.”
CRAIG LOWNDES (VF Holden Commodore, Car #888)
Practice Four: 4th (Fastest Lap – 1:31.2298)
Qualifying Race Three: 2nd (Fastest Lap – 1:30.8857)
Race Three: 1st
Championship: 2nd (2828 PTS)
Craig Lowndes:
“What a cracking day! We qualified better than we did yesterday which we thought was going to hold us in good stead for the race. I had a terrible start, but the guys did a fantastic job with the pit stops. We had to believe that the car was going to be fast enough throughout the race which it was. We made the car nicer today as a race car than we did yesterday. We had the speed in the end so it’s been a fantastic day.”
