Sooo, that was quick. We sound like a broken record, but that was quick. The Gold Coast 500 is here, and it’s our second-to-last tango for the year!
Our scoot around Mount Panorama felt quick because frankly, it was! The quickest Bathurst 1000 race ever saw the Bulls come up just short of a Great Race win, only beaten by a pretty fast savoury snack… but we digress.
The less-than-two-week turnaround has been and gone in a flash, and both Bulls are looking to build on their impressive 2024 campaigns. However, you couldn’t get a more challenging change of scenery at the Gold Coast. From the rollercoaster, high-speed classic at Bathurst to the vicious and immovable concrete jungle that is the Gold Coast street circuit.
Famous for being so sweet in triumph, but oh so brutal with even the most minor of mistakes, it takes no prisoners. But there is simply nothing quite like it. The unreal helicopter shots of the first lap, cars pummeling through the back chicane, only a stone’s throw from punters looking to sneak a wave. Spectators high and low as fans line not only the streets but the rooftops, and the balconies as far as the eye can see.
There are not too many places in the world where we get to do what we do this weekend. Not only battling away on one of the toughest tracks of the year, through of of the nations great holiday locations, but to be within a surfboard’s reach of one Australia’s most picturesque beaches.
And even though we may finish the weekend minus quite a few wing mirrors, we still cannot wait to see what the penultimate round of the Supercars Championship has in store for our Bulls.
Don’t take our word for it, scroll on down to see what we mean, and see what the boys have to say about their upcoming run around the streets of the Gold Coast ⏬
“I always really enjoy the Gold Coast event each year. I think it’s a really great event from an atmosphere and fan level, but the track also is mega. So, I’m really looking forward to getting there and giving it a good go. I’ve had some good runs there, and some quite tough runs. Last year, for example, I was running quite well but had a few mechanical issues which hurt the end of my year. We want to try and win a race or two at the Gold Coast this weekend, but we just need to see where we end up. Honestly, I really enjoy the track and I think we can be on for a good result this year.”
“It’s just such a short turnaround between Bathurst and the Gold Coast. It’s our shortest of the year so it’s exciting. It’s good to already be focusing on the Gold Coast, which is probably one of the most challenging races of the year. It’s a home race, so I’m looking forward to getting back out on track you know in such a quick turnaround. It certainly hasn’t been my best round over the last couple of years, so hopefully we can have a good crack this year. The last two years have certainly been suboptimal on my side so I’m keen to get there and have a good run. The track is gnarly. It’s as crazy as it gets for a Supercar driver, throwing it around the curbs, along the beach of the Gold Coast. It’s one of the ones we all look forward to, it’s one we all want to win. We all want the surfboard as a trophy so I’m excited to get out on track and just have a good, fun weekend. We’ve been solid the last few rounds so it’ll be good to keep that going into the Gold Coast.”
All of the on-track action kicks off at 12:30 pm on Friday with the first practice session of the weekend!
