Jamie Whincup heads overseas for ROC

Red Bull Racing Australia driver Jamie Whincup is flying the nest and heading on an overseas adventure.

Don’t get too excited Ford fans, he’s coming back!

JDub has again accepted an invitation to drive at the Race of Champions (ROC), which this year will be held in Barbados, with nine-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner Tom Kristensen, 2014 Indianapolis 500 winner Ryan Hunter-Raey  and reigning ROC champ Romain Grosjean already confirmed to be taking part.

The #1 Holden pilot will be channelling his inner Pirate of the Caribbean on December 13 and 14 this year as he takes on a range of different vehicles in head-to-head races at the Bushy Park Circuit.

Having ventured to Thailand for the last two years to take part, Jamie has already competed in the ROC once after 2013’s event was cancelled, but he’s looking forward to sinking his teeth into it and coming back stronger and more experienced.

“I’m delighted to be back competing in the Race of Champions again,” he said.

“I really enjoyed my visit to ROC Bangkok in 2012 and will use the experience from my rookie year to be more competitive this time in Barbados. Bangkok was the first time I had driven a left-hand-drive car so a little more practice in the coming months will no doubt help me out for the race.”
