4:30pm – Jamie Whincup makes history with his 106th race win!

What a race and way to bounce back #teamwork

Jamie:

“It has been a bit lean this year, as we all know, but great to get my second win of the year. It all came down to pace, we had great pace all race. The guys and girls did an awesome job with the strategy, I think that was a big contributor. We are a big team at Red Bull Holden Racing, thanks to my teammate (Shane van Gisbergen) for being a team player today. No doubt what comes around goes around in situations like that. We got the win which is the main thing and now we move on to the long races of the year, the season of endurance. The win numbers I don’t look at too much, it’s not something I really celebrate, but every win is awesome and it’s good to still be winning in one of the most competitive categories in the world. Craig (Lowndes) will probably still be around in 25 years’ time. He’s an awesome competitor and teammate, so we’re still in the heat of the battle.”

Shane:

“We had a pretty good weekend of qualifying with two strong starting positions and then two good starts in the races, so that’s pretty awesome for me. The race was pretty good and very exciting with lots of good battles throughout the race, which were cool to be a part of. It’s hard to say if the safety car helped us, it didn’t work against us, but I think we would have ended up in the same place without it. In the middle stint we were stuck behind the frontrunners, so we pitted early for the last one, but we had a fuel advantage, so we came out in front. Then I just enjoyed the battle to the finish. Jamie (Whincup) was quick, so we let him past and then battled to the end. It was pretty exciting trying to hold those guys out.”

12:55pm – This race last year, Jamie claimed his 100th race win to make him only the second ever driver alongside teammate Lowndesy to hit the tonne. If he wins today, he’ll take the crown for most race victories ever. But shh, don’t jinx it!

11:40am – Race 2 grid has been set. We will be lined up side by side on row 2, Jdub in p3 and SVG in p4.

10:45am – Update on yesterday. Shane has spent the morning with the stewards. He has been handed a 33 sec penalty to his race 1 time for the safety car restart. Moving on… we have 15mins til qualifying, time to bounce back!

8:15am – She’s good as new! What a fantastic job by the crew to get car 88 looking mint again.
