Perth 400 Fast Facts
- Ok, so we haven’t had the best run of results recently, but if history at Barbagallo Raceway is anything to go by, we should get back on track here. After all, we’ve claimed seven of the last 11 race wins at the Perth circuit.
- Think back to last year and you’ll remember Lowndesy breaking Skaife’s record for the most race wins. Well, Skaife’s got another record on the line here this weekend – one more race win in Perth will see Craig equal his record for the most race wins at a single track in ATCC/V8SC history.
- Lowndesy’s record in Perth in the early days was impeccable – 12 race wins on the trot from 1996 to 2000, excluding 1997 when he was racing in Europe. Two more wins with Triple Eight brings his total at Barbagallo up to 14, one shy of Skaife’s record of 15 at Oran Park.
- In qualifying Jamie has historically been the man to watch, claiming eight of the last 10 pole positions, as well as finishing on the podium in 11 of the last 12 races.
- The track was previously known as Wanneroo Raceway before it was renamed in the early ‘90s after former driver Alf Barbagallo in light of his backing of the facility.

What the Drivers Say
Lowndesy: “We‘re really looking forward to getting across to Perth. We go back to a soft tyre this weekend, which has been very good to us this year.
“It’s a difficult track to get right, even though it’s very short. It’s one of two circuits on the calendar that we lap in under a minute and you need a good setup, which we’ve managed to have in the past.
“I find it a great driver’s track. My favourite parts are probably over the back and down in The Bowl. One of the biggest challenges of Barbagallo is tyre life, but we’re really looking forward to getting over there and trying to get that championship lead back.”
J-Dub: “Only a short trip from New Zealand to Perth, but we love going west since the government upgraded the Barbagallo circuit. Qualifying is a real highlight every year, but more so this year with the cars being so close. It’s a crazy challenge maximising the car’s handling and trying to find an edge over your opposition.
“We love a challenge at Red Bull Racing and can see a big one in front of us. It’s not the first time we have been below expectation and I have full faith in the crew to do what only we know how and fight back hard.
“While the circuit looks very simple on paper, it’s really challenging to get it all right. The most important corner on the circuit is what we call The Bowl, which is the flowing 180 degree bend that leads onto the back straight. The circuit has quite a unique surface, which is real challenge for the engineers to adapt to.”
