Welcome to Launceston, where the usual leisurely pace takes a backseat as the Bulls storm the “Apple Isle” for Supercar’s return to Tasmania! This weekend, watch as the cosy corners of Tasmania’s northern gem transform as Supercars racing invigorates the city and surrounds of a normally serene atmosphere.
Symmons Plain Raceway once again plays host to Tasmania’s round of blistering quick, and regularly dramatic racing. While locals may still try to keep their favourite spots under wraps, there is no hiding the Bull’s roar as they emerge from the Sydney shadows to light up picturesque Tassie.
For both the Bulls, the Olympic break has been one of testing, resetting, and refuelling for the trip south. “I’m looking forward to getting back down to Tasmania” said Broc, “It’s been a bit of a break, so I’ve been watching plenty of the Olympics. It’s been a good track for me in the past, my first ever Supercars podium, and then a win in the second race last year.”
Will is also looking forward to the trip and hoping to re-create some previous successes stating “Tasmania has been good to me, last year I won two of the races there, so that was fantastic and hopefully we can replicate that this year. It was good to have a test day after Sydney and definitely gave us a few more tools for our toolbox, hopefully, we can take them to Tasmania and beat Chaz! (Mostert)”
Symmons Plains Raceway has always lent itself to some dramatic racing over the years, and 2024 will most likely be no different. Both Bulls know the venue and track well, but reckon the tight layout provides some top-tier battles and qualifying efforts. “I always find the track good fun” said Will, “it’s a small track but also quite technical – so you have to put your best foot forward just because of how tight qualifying times around there are.”
BFeen believes there is a lot more than meets the eye with the track; “Obviously, there’s a lot of talk about how small the track is and what the venue is like, but I really enjoy it. It looks super simple with only a few corners on the track, but that’s what makes it so technical, and qualifying times so tight.”
He believes the short layout of mostly corners makes it a fun challenge to navigate. “You don’t really get too much of a rest, you’re sort of always turning throughout the lap, and with the slipstream being a big factor in these Gen 3 cars, the racing is always pretty fun. There’s always a lot happening, so I’m honestly excited to go racing again.”
We can’t wait to make the beautiful trip south and get stuck into the start of the latter part of the 2024 season! Although the action might be red-hot, we recommend bringing something warm, Launceston is bloody chilly this time of year! But, regardless of freezing temperatures and excessive clothing layers, the Bulls and team are fired up to return to Tassie, and get themselves back up on the box!
On-track action kicks off at 2:20 pm on Friday the 16th with an hour-long practice session, and we are looking to see as many Tasmanians as we can!
