“It’s been a great weekend overall, certainly the best this year so far. To get the round win is what we’ve been looking for, and the consistency has been the standout thing for us this year that we’ve been lacking. To come to Darwin and keep the momentum rolling from Tasmania is fantastic. We learnt some things from our test day and that gave me a lot of confidence. I’m not sure if we found a half a second in the car, but I certainly found some good confidence in myself. I think we rolled into Darwin strong, and to get a first, second and third for the weekend and the overall round win is awesome. Hopefully we can keep this momentum rolling into Townsville, and my focus will be to finish each race as best as I can and try and qualify as best as I can to make it a bit easier for us.”

“Qualifying was interesting today. I finished my lap and expected to finish P25 but we qualified third within a tenth, so I need to reflect on that and learn more from the car because it feels like I can be better. In the races, it doesn’t feel like we’re competitive but in reality, we’re fast, so I don’t really understand why that is because it’s a bit of a battle. The racing was particularly tough this weekend, especially when you get stuck behind others because the cars get so hot. The team has done an awesome job to stick behind me and keep trying stuff with the car. We had a lot of problems on Friday and basically lost all our practice sessions, but to come out with second on points for the weekend and for Broc to finish first on points for the event is awesome. I haven’t been much help to that side of the garage, so it’s been awesome to get a good team result because we’ve been struggling so much. I’m looking forward to Townsville because at least we can have some strategy and try some different things and hopefully the racing is good for everyone to watch.”

Jamie Whincup – Team Principal

“This season is so close across the field. You see some high-quality teams and drivers up the front of the race or qualifying one day, and then they can be down the back the next. If you don’t get that right…boom, you can lose 15 spots. The guys and girls at Red Bull Ampol Racing have done an incredible job this weekend. Although we started on the back foot on Friday with car #97, for the team to finish the weekend with a suite of trophies and the round win is amazing. On the Supercheap Auto Racing side of things, although we didn’t get the results we were aiming for, we had a lot of fun. We kept the car clean and got some good valuable running, and we’re looking forward to the rest of the rounds which are Sandown and Bathurst with Lowndesy. We love giving young guys a crack, and certainly Zane (Goddard) fits into that category. We like giving young kids the tools to showcase their skills and give them a great opportunity – that was one of the reasons I retired because I didn’t want to be a seat filler and stop any younger talent from coming through, so its exciting to open up opportunities in our sport.”
