A cracker finish to what was a huge weekend for the Red Bull Racing Australia team with both Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes making the podium.
After Lowndesy blow out yesterday, car #888 was stripped down to it’s shell due to a bent chassis. But no job is too big for the RBRA team as we pulled an all-nighter to ensure car #888 was back on track for Sunday.
After the final practice session for the weekend, both drivers qualified in the top ten.
Race three kicked off with JDub starting P2 and Lowndesy P10, but with fantastic strategy combined with some first class driving, the boys quickly aligned themselves into a one-two formation with over twenty five laps left.
The bulls charged past the checkered flag in what was a picture perfect finish , with Jamie Whincup taking to the podium for the third time this weekend.
“I haven’t won much this year, but having my name on the Jason Richards trophy is pretty special with him being an old team mate”, said Whincup.
Notoriously known to Lowndesy as his “bogey” track, his bounce back from yesterday will be written in the history books.
“To finally be on the podium here is pretty sweet, it wasn’t a win, but for sure it was the next best thing for me. To get some good points off the back of yesterday’s race two, it really shows what team spirit is all about” said Lowndes.
The run of bad luck for RBRA at Pukekohe Park Circuit is a thing of the past, thanks for having us NZ we had a blast!
