Will claims punchy podium, Broc caught up in late scuffle to finish Tasmanian weekend

Tasmania SuperSprint: Practice 3, Qualifying & Race 18 Results

Will Brown – Car #87

Practice 3 – 20th (51.6675)
Qualifying (Race 18) – Fourth (50.7355)
Race 18 – Second
Drivers’ Championship Standings – First (1980 points)

“Massive day today. We had really good pace, but I flat spotted a tire in the early stages of the first lap and I was limping the car home. I was hoping we could do four tires in the stop and change that front tire, but unfortunately couldn’t due to a safety car. I managed to limp it home and have a great battle with Thomas (Randle). Unfortunately, and probably due to me being slow, Broc got spun around by Thomas (Randle). I felt it was a bit unfair, the move made on me, so we got into it. But overall it was a pretty good race. I wasn’t happy with my race pace during that race, so I need to look at that, but I think that was due to the flat spotted tire. I think we’ll look at that over the next few weeks, but positive to get another podium. That’s a podium every round this year, so that’s pretty cool, but just need to keep it going.”

Race 18 – 15th

“It’s pretty frustrating. Same as last year, at the last race before Enduro’s I got spun out and lost to heaps of points. In qualifying, we probably had the potential to be on pole again. We certainly had the car to do it, we just didn’t execute. But to move forward in the race into third and then to have the pace to certainly end up on the podium but fought for second and got taken out at the end. Losing the points hurts, more so on a day like today when you’ve qualified further back to come back through the pack, getting to Will’s bumper and ending up racing him was really good for us. It certainly takes a little bit of pressure off our backs, we can be more on the front foot now. We’re still certainly right in the championship with 600 points coming up, but we need to really get some wins on the board. I’ve got plenty of confidence going to Sandown and Bathurst that we can certainly fight for a win at both those tracks. But overall, I think we had a really good weekend. Particularly the things we’ve been trying to improve throughout the weekends, it’s been really good. And then for me late in the race to be, you know, coming at those guys in front of me was really good. Sandown was a strong track for us last year, and Bathurst this year as well, so I think we’ve got a good couple of rounds coming up where we can try and make some points back on these other guys.”
