LIVE DIARY: PERTH SATURDAY

1640 If you asked any viewer on lap 25 if they knew where that race was going (apart from predicting the winner, that’s cheating) they’d be lying. Who else was shouting at the TV during those dying laps? What an epic sight it is to see those bulls charge and SVG bring home the goods, but a five-second penalty for turning Chaz Mostert around unfortunately cost Jamie a stronger points haul. Eyes on tomorrow’s prize!

Shane van Gisbergen – Car #97
Practice 3 – Sixth (Fastest Time: 0:56.0217)
Qualifying Race 1 – 12th (Fastest Time: 0:55.0995)
Race 1Third

“Qualifying was average, we missed a little bit of pace and didn’t make it through to Q3 unfortunately and we did two runs in Q2, so that was a shame. We made some big wholesale changes for the race thanks to the Autobarn Lowndes Racing car, they were quite a bit stronger than us and right away the car was quite different. It’s still not perfect, we still need to make it a bit better. We had good tyre life and decided to go long because of it and we came home strong at the end. It’s always fun when you have a tyre advantage, but those 10 laps where we hung out and didn’t pit were quite tough, but we came back strong.”

Jamie Whincup – Car #1
Practice 3 – 25th (Fastest Time: 0:56.8534)
Qualifying Race 1 – 14th (Fastest Time: 0:55.0597)
Race 111th

“We need to work on qualifying for sure, we’re just lingering in the middle at the moment, which isn’t good enough. We tried to make too many changes in qualifying, trying to do too much between one session to the next and we confused ourselves a bit. Wild race, I’m kicking myself. Tagging Chaz (Mostert), I was just trying to judge it and I’ve just nicked him. I went up and apologised straight away, but it cost us five spots, we should have been good for sixth there. The car’s okay, it’s nothing special. We had a reasonably good strategy, which got us from 14th up into the points somewhere.”

1536 Two laps to go and Shane has super fresh rubber and a podium in his sights! He’s fourth at the moment. What can he do from here?

1523 So this just happened…

1447 Mid-pack bandits. Almost like back-seat bandits. But not quite as cool.

1320 One hour until pit exit opens. How do you think the drivers spend their time in that A trailer of theirs? Rumour has is there are endless lollies, Red Bull on tap and a jacuzzi. That’s not weird, is it?

1243 Not exactly what we were hoping for, unfortunately our qualy finished up in Q2 with SVG in 12th and JDub in 14th. Time for lunch and a Red Bull and the drivers and engineers will knuckle out their race plans.

1044 SVG and JDub will be sitting out Q1, cheering on teammate Lowndesy and will hopefully be joining him in Q2!

1035 “The car’s good, we just used our bad tyres. Tyres are so critical.” – Jamie on finishing 25th in practice 3. Yep, tyres are so important here so you can’t read much into his position. SVG finished 6th, he’s feeling a bit happier with his car today, must have found some wings.

0800 Good morning! We are gearing up for a BIG day here at Barbagallo. Both Bulls will be starting in Q2 today as they finished in the top 10 in Friday practice. First up, we are heading over to the Official Team Store for our last autograph session of the weekend, we hope to see you there!
