The 2014 V8 Supercars season has started with a bang for Red Bull Racing Australia. (Not the bad kind of bang with a damaged car, the really good kind with trophies and fireworks!)
The first of today’s twilight races at the Clipsal 500 saw J-Dub and Lowndesy cross the line 1-2 respectively, kicking off the season with a clean sweep of Saturday’s race wins.
This victory sees the new Car No. 1 Holden Commodore engineer, David Cauchi, claim his maiden victory as the voice in J-Dub’s ear.
Spectators were treated to a race of epic proportions later today with bulls, black flags and even a door flying all over the streets of Adelaide. But after a storming start, Craig dominated the field and crossed the line at the front of the pack.
“I managed a rocket start and got away,” said a beaming Lowndesy.
“Jamie and Scotty McLaughlin both gave it a red hot go at closing the gap, but I was up in the clean air which is where you need to be in a race like this.”
J-Dub was in the midst of last-lap battle with Volvo driver Scott McLaughlin, passing him with just a handful of turns to go, but only to end up third as the 20-year-old passed him again at the last corner.
“It was a great day for the sport and that’s what matters,” Jamie said.
“In race two I didn’t give up till the end. I’d like to think that I was a part of making the race exciting. I wouldn’t be a racing car driver if I was happy with the end result.
“We have one win under our belt from today but we’re still a little rusty for round one, but we’ll sort that out.”
The last 250km race of the Clipsal 500 kicks off tomorrow at 3.15pm Adelaide time. Click here for telecast schedules.
