Our reigning Supercars champion, Shane “SVG” van Gisbergen will be going into this year’s final round very differently to last year.
This time a year ago, SVG was entering his final race weekend at Homebush as the hot favourite, and he came out the other side with his first ever championship title.
This year, he goes in placed fifth with his team mate Jamie “J-Dub” Whincup in the lead.

Is there any intention of SVG having a crack to come back from fifth and claim the title?
He currently trails J-Dub by 276 points with 150 points up for grabs in each of the two races, so technically it’s still possible…
“That won’t be happening,” SVG told the Daily Telegraph.
“I am not in this. It is between Jamie and Scott.”
The Drivers Championship might not be within his reach but the Teams Championship certainly is, and it’s at the forefront of his mind this time around.

The Red Bull Holden Racing Team currently trails DJR Team Penske by 105 points with a win looking to be a large, but achievable, feat come Sunday night.
“My sole focus is to help the team wrap up the Teams Championship,” SVG continued.
“Winning the Teams Championship is very important and it means so much to everyone in our team, our supporters and our sponsors. That is what I am aiming for.”
Now that’s what you call taking one for the team!
