SVG is joining the big league…the Pro Eseries that is.

After successfully taking out the Supercars All Stars Eseries during the year, the 2020 Bathurst 1000 winner will join teammate Jarrad ‘Fuelcell’ Filsell in the series which will see two Red Bull Holden Commodores take to the virtual grid for rounds four and five.

No stranger to the simulator, SVG believes the Pro Eseries is a whole different ball game.

“I’m looking forward to joining Fuelcell in the Pro Eseries for the next two weeks, said SVG.”

“Jarrad and I have raced against each other before, but I’ve been out of my sim for a few weeks now so I’m expecting to be a bit rusty.

“I really enjoy racing on my Omen sim, but the pros are in a whole different league so I’m expecting a challenge however the American ovals are always fun, which we’re at this week.

“Hopefully we can have a fair crack, and it’ll be even better if we get a couple of good results for the team.”

SVG will contest rounds four and five of the Pro Eseries on Tuesday nights, with all the action live streamed on the Red Bull Holden Racing Team’s Facebook page.

With the final round of the Supercars season fast approaching, the Pro Eseries is just getting started, and preseason is in full swing.

So, ladies and gentlemen; start your virtual engines and put your hands together for our 2020 Pro Eseries driver… Jarrad ‘Fuelcell’ Filsell!

You might be wondering, what does it take to be a Pro Eseries driver for the Red Bull Holden Racing Team?

Our criteria: have the best Omen gear in the business and be faster than JDub on the sim…not that that’s hard!

For Jarrad, the opportunity to join the Red Bull Holden family is an exhilarating thought.

“I’m really excited to be joining the factory Holden squad in my second season in the Pro Eseries. I think the competition is definitely harder this time around as the series grows and evolves, so I’m just going out there to win as many races as possible.”

No stranger to the virtual racing world, Fuelcell has been getting many laps under his belt in preparation for the season start following the Bathurst 1000.

“I’m lucky enough to coach on the iRacing platform, so being on the sim almost every day of the week keeps my mind fresh and in tune with any car. With the Omen 30L and Omen X monitors, I can definitely see the difference in top-of-the-range equipment really putting me in the best shape going forward this year.”

Having regularly raced against Shane ‘SVG’ van Gisbergen numerous times, meeting the drivers and crew at The Bend was an amazing experience for the Adelaide-based sim racer.

“The Red Bull Holden Racing Team have been extremely accommodating so far, especially in the current climate. I was fortunate enough to meet the team at The Bend a few weeks ago which was an awesome experience. I regularly race against Shane as well, and with his help I always learn different techniques, but any racer won’t give away their tricks – I’ll just have to figure them out myself!”

The Supercars Pro Eseries kicks off at the end of October, with drivers battling it out for the Championship over six rounds.

“It’s pretty awesome to end the Eseries with the championship. I qualified really well at Oran Park, but unfortunately couldn’t quite pull a fast lap together at Bathurst, and I managed to qualify fourth. The Oran Park race was heaps cool. I was only a teenager when I last raced there, so it brought a heap of cool memories back. I was able to extend my lead there before a crazy race a Bathurst. I was a bit angry at myself for pushing too hard for the win at Mount Panorama which caused me to spin out Anton (de Pasquale), but everything worked out in the end. I really have to thank everyone at Supercars for putting on a great show. The Eseries was a lot of fun and kept us busy during these crazy times. Thanks to the team, my crew who spotted me every week, Omen and HP for supplying me with my simulator gear, and Armor All for their donations to my designated charity, Wings for Life.”

“It’s been a tough 10 weeks for me in the Eseries, but I had a lot of fun. Overall, I’m proud of all the team at Supercars for bringing together a championship when we couldn’t compete on the real racetrack. So many people behind the scenes dug deep and made it happen, no more so than my fellow Supercars’ drivers that put in hours and hours of time on the sim each week getting ready for the competition. I quickly realised that the gaming world is very different to the real world, although both just as challenging and requiring the same amount of skill. I look forward to continuing using my simulator on a monthly basis racing my mates for fun from time to time. I thank everyone who tuned in to watch the competition and I hope it only makes everyone hungrier to enjoy the action from Sydney Motorsport Park at the end of the month.”

“It was great to be a part of the Eseries again, especially for the final round, although my performance wasn’t as good as I would’ve liked it to be. Oran Park holds fond memories for me. The track is just as busy on the sim as it was in real life. It’s great Shane has taken out the Eseries championship. It’s been really close between Anton (de Pasquale), Scotty (McLaughlin) and Shane the whole way through. I got in SVG’s way unfortunately in qualifying at Bathurst but luckily enough he managed to get over it. The championship win for Shane is great for the team and all the sponsors involved, but now the Eseries has concluded they have to get their head back into the main game.”

Get SVG & JDub’s rEcap from the second-last stop of the Eseries at Michigan Speedway! 

“I had a lot of fun last night at Michigan. Fortunately, I had a heap of Omen gear waiting for me when I arrived back in Australia, so I spent the first few days of my quarantine setting up my simulator here which is quite different to my one back in New Zealand. It was a bit hard to get used to at first, but I think my sim is where I want it to be now – being an oval track last night made it a bit easier, but next week will be tough one. I think we’re at Oran Park & Bathurst next week, so I’ll be getting some laps under my belt ready for the final round. The first two races last night were good. I got caught in a bit of action in both but managed to come back through the field. The reverse grid race was a lot of fun coming from the back. In the last race, we definitely made a bit of an error by not understanding the new rule and we pitted twice, which really hurt us. We’ll get on top of that and make sure we make no further mistakes for the final round next Wednesday night. It’ll be a bit of a fight between Scotty (McLaughlin) and myself, but I’m really looking forward to it.”

“It’s been a pretty full on week for me this week. In between moving houses and numerous Supercars commission commitments, unfortunately I didn’t have a heap of time to practice on the sim this week, which obviously showed in my results. In saying that, I really enjoyed the Michigan Speedway oval. The racing is so technical and it’s all about positioning the car well. For last night’s races, you could say I was on for a couple of good results…but crashed out. The truth is, I think I started more trouble than I received – that was my bad. I copped a penalty for driving on the pit exit line which really cost me and ended up bleeding out at the front of the pack to end up a lap down. I decided to stay there and help SVG where I could although he didn’t need it. It would be nice to finish this crazy Eseries championship with a good result next week at Oran Park, back at a track I’m very familiar with. Bring it on.”

"We had another awesome night last night. I was able to continue the momentum from last week into the first race at Phillip Island. It wasn’t an easy race as everyone has improved from Round 1 so much, but I was able to hold off Anton (de Pasquale) again at the finish line to get the win. We then headed to Interlagos which is a pretty cool track. I was able to get a podium in the first race there which put me at the back for the reverse grid race. The start of Race 3 was hectic. Somehow, I managed to weave my way through all the carnage on the first lap and gained a fair few spots. I had another great battle with Scotty (McLaughlin) towards the end after I did my last pit stop. I think our strategy worked well for that race and was able to claim another win, and another cheque for Wings for Life."

"To be honest, I felt like I made a massive improvement last night. I got some help from Brodie Kostecki during the week who helped tune my sim, as I realised there were so many things I was doing wrong. Simple things like not enough resolution on the screen, tyre noise was turned right down and a few other small things that made a huge difference. I was much happier driving the car last night – it was much more realistic, but unfortunately for me the whole field stepped up last night and we were all much quicker. If you look at the times last night compared to the first week, it’s crazy different – everyone’s really competitive now. We generally moved forward in the races which was good, and to finish 14th and 13th in the last two races was a good gain from the week before. I’ll keep cracking on this week with some more laps and see if we can improve again next week. Well done to SVG too, he’s looking really good out there."

Get SVG & JDub’s rEcap from last night’s races at Charlotte & Daytona! 🇺🇸

"It was a pretty awesome night last night to bag 300 points. The oval at Charlotte was fun. I had a heap of mint battles throughout the race. Jamie was leading the race which was awesome, but unfortunately he got caught up which ruined his race. Luckily, I was able to hang on for the win on the outside line, held it flat and finished side by side with a few other cars – it was really fun. We then went to Daytona which I’ve raced at quite a few times in real life. I didn’t have to do as much practice there during the week as I know the track, but we had some good racing there too. I had a good battle with Anton (de Pasquale) in the first race. We really fought it out, but I managed to sneak past for the win. In the last race, there were a couple of guys out of position, so we had an easier run but still had to manage it to the end. It’s cool to be leading the Eseries championship, although there’s still three rounds to go so anything can happen. I just have to stay out of trouble, keep scoring points and keep having fun. A huge shout out to Armor All as well for donating $1000 to my designated charity, Wings for Life. Bring on next Wednesday."

"I had quite a good time on the sim last night – it was a bit of fun. I didn’t get a huge amount of time beforehand to practice, so I was a little bit nervous going into the races, but I was excited to qualify P6 in Charlotte. The biggest issue I had with my sim last night was braking again. Usually I would lean on the engineers to help resolve this problem, but they’ve been too busy getting the real race cars ready back at the workshop, so we just haven’t had time to fix those slight problems. At places like Watkins Glen and Charlotte, there’s no braking so I’m actually reasonably competitive. I started P6 and was leading the race with six or seven laps to go. I got a good restart under safety car then started getting passed by a couple of cars and then boom, got caught in an accident and finished almost last, again. Race 2 was reasonable, I ended up P12 which was an improvement considering the laps. Unfortunately, in the last race I got involved in an incident where I couldn’t pull up in time and that was that. All in all, it was a reasonable night. Now we’ve announced the revised calendar, my role within the Supercars Commission has been extremely busy, so I’m not going to have a huge amount of time to e-race in the coming weeks. I might call around and lean on one of the other lads to fill my spot for car #88, but we’ll no doubt make a decision in the coming days."

Just when the Supercars Eseries couldn’t get any more entertaining, they’ve upped the entertainment factor.

Monday night will host the first Supercars Celebrity e-race where 28 icons will battle it out virtually on Australian motorsport’s holy grail – Mt Panorama.

Flying the flag for the Red Bull Holden Racing Team will be three-time Supercars champion Craig Lowndes, and five-time Moto GP World Champion Mick Doohan.

Both Lowndes and Doohan will race in identical liveries to our 2020 Red Bull Holden Commodores, and will share the grid with Red Bull athlete and two-time Dakar Rally champion Toby Price, who will sport a Red Bull inspired livery.

Although Lowndes may have a slight advantage against the star-studded field, he explains that the world of sim racing is a completely different ball game to the real deal.

“I’m really looking forward to the celebrity e-race. Sim racing is definitely something that’s come on strong and being a part of the All Stars Eseries during the week was definitely an eye opener,” Lowndes said.

“It will be great to get back to a track I know really well and racing against some names I’ve had some great battles with over the years – Neil Crompton being one of them.”

“Racing with Mick Doohan and Toby Price who will be completely out of their comfort zone will also be a lot of fun. I’m really looking forward to the challenge and maybe having some panel rubbing.”

Doohan, whose son Jack competed in Round 5 of the Supercars All Stars Eseries in Spa, says he isn’t expecting to be competitive, but banter and fun is essential.

“To be honest, my expectations are very low. My sim experience is very little.

“I’ve had a quick glance at the whole grid, and it looks like there’s some younger guys there that may have a bit more sim and computer game experience than I will ever have, but at the end of the day it’s a bit of a laugh.

“I’ve raced at Bathurst a couple of times. I raced there with Yamaha in 88’ and in 87’ on a production bike – I think I finished second in that race. I’ve also done a few Mercedes Benz corporate days at the mountain after the Bathurst 12 Hour, so I know the circuit, but the circuit is one thing and the computer is another.”

Simulator racing is a very foreign sport for Toby Price, but the competitive beast expects plenty of carnage between drivers on Monday night.

“I’m stoked to be a part of Monday night’s Supercars Celebrity Eseries. I think my Red Bull Supercar looks mega, and hopefully it’s fast too,” Price said.

“Sim racing is a completely different ball game compared to what I’m used to, but I’m keen to give it a crack and have a bit of fun along the way.

“I don’t own a sim and have had to call on a few mates to help me out, but hopefully I can get a few good results under my belt and stay away from all the carnage you see in the All Stars Eseries.”

Get the popcorn ready folks, it’s going to be an entertaining race.

Hear from SVG, JDub, GT & CL as they recap their night at Circuit of the Americas 🇺🇸 

“Overall, we had another really good night at Circuit of the Americas. It’s such a cool place to race at, and it’s a shame we don’t race there anymore in the Supercars. It’s nice to get another win on the board. Anton (de Pasquale) and I had another good battle in the last race. I went for a dive on the last lap and unfortunately clipped him again, but we had a fair lead from the rest of the pack, so we were able to redress. I’m really happy with my reverse grid race again too. We managed to finish ninth after starting from dead-last on a grid of 31 cars – no idea how I managed to dodge all the carnage from that race. Craig and Garth had a night to forget results wise, but it just shows how different sim racing is to the real deal. Having all four of us on the grid at the same time was pretty cool too. I was able to move into second in the Eseries championship which is good, and it’s going to be a tight battle heading into the last four rounds of the series.”

“It was a tough night for me in Texas, and unfortunately the results didn’t reflect the work I’ve been putting in over the last few weeks. Race 1 was definitely the pick of the bunch for me, as I managed to gain a few spots throughout the race to finish 14th. Unfortunately for Races 2 and 3, again I got caught up in the mid-pack carnage and that shows in my results. As you can tell from GT and Lowndesy’s results, it’s not an easy task to jump in a sim and be competitive – there’s so much more to it. Simulator racing is extremely technical and unfortunately there’s drivers who have 10+ years on me in this field. My aim is to keep getting my hours up and hopefully I can be more competitive when we return to America next Wednesday night. All in all, it was great to have four Red Bull Holden Racing Team Commodores on the grid last night, and hopefully we can make it happen again before the end of the season.”

“The Eseries is a lot harder than it looks. Everyone sits at home and criticises all the incidents and accidents but now sitting behind a steering wheel and being part of the action, it was damn hard. It was a lot of fun though, and it was nice to be on the grid again rubbing shoulders with all the names I’m very familiar with. I think knowing the layout of the track from previously racing at Circuit of the Americas was a handy help, but in saying that the sim work is a very different beast, although It’s something I’ve enjoyed getting my head around. The elevation up into turn one in real life is massive, but on a computer game you don’t get to feel that so all those little things come into play, but at the end of the day it was a lot of fun and I got to beat up some old mates. I’d love to come back and have another crack at Eseries racing. Although it was a lot of fun tonight, I think it’s my aim not to start future races from the front of the grid in a reverse grid race. The funniest part of the whole thing is all the chat the goes on between the drivers while they’re racing. In regard to my results, I think they speak for themselves – they were really bad and I was a lot better when we raced there in 2013. As I said, I’d like to come back and try to redeem myself.”

“It was a tough night for my first Supercars Eseries experience. I knew we weren’t going to qualify well because I just wasn’t on the pace that I wanted prior to the event. I thought my race pace was going to be pretty good, which was the case in the first race. I started in 27th and managed to finish in 13th which was good, but the problem with that is you still have to fight your way through the field for the reverse grid. I got caught up in a lot of incidents on the first lap of Race 2 and was unfortunately put to the back due to the damage. I had a great battle with Jamie in that race, although I didn’t quite get the result I was looking for. I didn’t get a great start in the last race but managed to avoid the carnage through turn one, two and three, then someone had a moment, spun and then collected me which spun me out unfortunately. I think that seems to be the story of this Eseries, if you find yourself up the back, you’re likely to get caught up in a lot of carnage and last night was no exception. It was a frustrating night, but I really enjoyed the challenge and hopefully I can do it again before the end of the season.”

Howdy y’all!

We’ve got some more exciting news to share. Craig ‘CL’ Lowndes is heading back to America’s deep south to compete in Round 6 of Supercars All Stars Eseries at Circuit of the Americas in Texas.

CL joins his fellow Red Bull Holden Racing Team quartet of Jamie Whincup, Shane van Gisbergen and Garth Tander on Wednesday night, and we can confirm, they’re ready and rarin’ to go.

Although the three-time Supercars champion is a dominant figure in the motor racing real world, he’s all hat and no cattle when it come to e-racing.

“My experience on a simulator is pretty limited to be honest. I’ve obviously missed that phase in my racing career, but in saying that I’ve been operating a sim from the Triple Eight workshop over the last week or so. As I’m now understanding a bit more of the technology and how advanced they’ve become, they’re actually quite a good thing.”

It will be a return to the Lone Star State for CL since last racing at Circuit of the Americas in 2013 as part of the Supercars Championship, and the thought of returning to the iconic circuit is exciting.

“It was quite amazing racing at Texas. When it first became a reality for us flying half-way across the world all those years ago, taking what we know as a product here in Australia to the backdoor of America was sensational – I loved it.

“The interesting thing was the temperature. The climate was extremely hot and very different to what we expected so a lot of drivers suffered. The Americans knew quite a lot about Supercars and they were very appreciative, very polite and they loved the cars,” he said.

Although CL’s had real-world experience racing in a supercar in Texas, he admits the differences between simulator racing and racing in real time are more than you can shake a stick at.

“I think whatever advantage you’ve had at a track you’ve raced at before is now gone. Most of the drivers have now been on a simulator and completed laps at the tracks, and as I said the sim is a completely different world for me. Getting your head around what you need to do to drive the sim to maximise your lap time is more valuable than knowing the tracks in real life.”

Watching Supercars Eseries has been a Wednesday night ritual in the Lowndes household, and it sounds like all the sledges dished out by CL might come back to bite him in the….well, you know what.

“The Eseries has been interesting to watch from afar. Both Lara (CL’s wife) and I have been home every Wednesday logging on to watch it and it’s been quite humorous at times.

“Now I’ve had time to get my backside into a sim and understand how difficult it is, I think all of my sledging at drivers watching from the TV is unjustified considering how hard it is to get your head around it.”

Having four Red Bull Holden Commodores racing in Texas is going to be a sight to see, and sure’nuff the competitiveness is already showing.

“If there’s one driver I want to beat on Wednesday night, it’s definitely my teammate, Jamie Whincup. Although he was struggling at the start, he’s definitely getting better. There’s no way I’m going to beat Shane, so if I can get ahead of JDub I’ll be happy.”

We’re certain that whoever’s going to be at the bottom of the RBHRT leader board after Wednesday night is going to be madder than a wet hen. This should make for some interesting viewing…

A Supercars return has come early for Garth ‘GT’ Tander, as he prepares to tackle Round 6 of the Supercars All Stars Eseries next Wednesday night at the Circuit of the Americas.

The three-time Bathurst winner and 2007 Supercars champion says he’s looking forward to racing against SVG & JDub virtually.

“I’m really looking forward to the Eseries. Just like the real thing, the competition looks tough and the intensity is high, so situation normal! I’m looking forward to joining SVG and JDub representing the Red Bull Holden Racing Team.”

The #97 co-pilot will race in an identical livery to his counterpart Shane ‘SVG’ van Gisbergen, however will race an unfamiliar number to what we’re all used to.

“I’ll be using the number 42, as that is my wife, Leanne’s race number. My main number from Supercars was 2, and that is being used, and my karting number was 51, but I don’t want to use Murph’s number, so I figured Leanne’s number might give me some luck!

“I’ve been practicing quite a bit in the sim, but that has been in front-wheel drive cars, so not really comparable to a Supercar. I have done exactly zero kilometres prior to being announced as a wildcard, however since then I have tried to get as many miles as possible under my belt. I think I qualify as an eRookie,” GT said.

Eseries Recap: Round 5

Podiums, prangs & penalties (maybe)… Spa really had it all! 🇧🇪 

“We had great night at Spa, although we still don’t know if I’ll be getting a penalty for the first race yet as they’re still talking about it, but overall, some great results and I was able to bank a few points. We had a good second race which was reverse grid. I haven’t had any luck with the reverse grid races so far so I was happy with a fifth place. I basically fluked my way up into the top five which is pretty good. Before and after each race I was communicating with Jack (Doohan) trying to get him up to speed with everything. I was mainly giving him a few tips so he could stay out of trouble during the races. His pace wasn’t too bad sitting in the top 20, but unfortunately when you’re back there especially in the Eseries it’s just crazy carnage which he was involved in a bit. Racing against Lando was also cool. We race together a bit online and he’s always super-fast, but again it looked like he was caught up in a few crashes and ended up driving backwards into pit lane which was really funny. I’m looking forward to Circuit of the Americas and Sebring next week, and I’m still really enjoying this Eseries racing. It’s extremely competitive and full-on but entertaining at the same time.”

“It was another tough night of Eseries racing, although I actually really enjoyed driving around Spa as it’s one of the best tracks in the world. During testing I really enjoyed trying to get the most out of the car. Once again, I felt really good. I felt like I was driving heaps better and maximising the car, although I’m just missing some key fundamentals on how to be fast on a simulator. I like to think I’ve got skills to go fast in a real race car but it’s very different driving a simulator car and actually going quick. I’m going to keep chipping away at trying to understand how to go fast on the game. I’ll try a few things this week, although not sure if they’ll work or not – hopefully they do. If the things I try this week don’t work, I’ll try some other thing next week – it’ll be trial and error. All in all, I’m really enjoying the Eseries and loving driving around the different tracks of the world, but it’s just going to take a bit more time to understand the car and the world of sim racing fully.”

“My qualifying wasn’t too great as I wasn’t able to put in a clear lap and when I did I had quite a bit of traffic, so I wasn’t really in a good position from the start. Regardless, I don’t think my pace was good enough for the Top Ten Shootout, but I definitely would’ve liked to have started further up the grid. I unfortunately got caught up in the lap one, race one carnage up the top of the hill, so I ended up having to pit early due to the damage but I was too far behind at that point to be competitive. The second race was reverse grid and I got caught up again in the first lap carnage, but this time I was able to hang on. It still wasn’t a great race for me and I finished 15th and received a mid-race black flag to top it all off. My starting position for race three was a combination of my results from the first two races so I started 27th. I had quite a good start and was able to make up a few positions on the opening lap but lost out in my pit stop strategy, which I was doing myself along with the engineering and the spotting, so I’m the only one to blame. I managed to finish 16th from 27th, but overall, I definitely wasn’t where I wanted to be. Although my results were not what I hoped for, I really enjoyed the night – it was a cool experience. A huge shout out to the Red Bull Holden Racing Team for letting me be a wildcard too.”

]]> Another week of Supercars All Stars Eseries action calls for another big-name international wildcard, although this one’s a little closer to home.

Jack Doohan, the son of Moto GP legend Mick Doohan and current F3 driver, has been confirmed to compete in Round 5 of the Eseries at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, the home of the Belgium F1 Grand Prix.

Jack will race in a #33 Red Bull Holden Commodore, a similar design to Max Verstappen’s Round 2 challenger.

The 17-year-old says he’s excited to join the Eseries grid, and is looking forward to the challenge of racing a V8 Supercar.

“I’m really looking forward to joining the Red Bull Holden team for the night. The Race is at Spa which is one of my favourite circuits and a new challenge driving a V8 Supercar so it’s going to be an awesome night,” Doohan said.

“I’ve done quite a bit of iRacing with Shane (van Gisbergen) just in hosted online races, it’s been great to be able race with him and obviously he will be really quick in the Eseries like he is in all our online races, so hopefully I can get in some practice and get up to speed.

“Previously at Spa I finished on the podium in Euroformula last year which was quite a good weekend, the long straights and the tight Sector 2 makes for some great racing and it’s one of my favourite tracks.”

Doohan was born in 2003, the same year seven-time title winner Jamie ‘JDub’ Whincup made his full-time Supercars Championship driving debut. Crazy, huh!

He’s currently a member of the Red Bull Junior Team, continuing the same path taken by the likes of Daniel Ricciardo, Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen to a Formula 1 career.

Round 5 of the Supercars All Stars Eseries begins Wednesday night with qualifying at 6:00pm AEST, broadcast exclusively on Fox Sports 506 before racing begins at 7:00pm.

From 7:00pm, racing will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 506, Kayo, Sky Sports (NZ) and 10 Play.

Online fans can watch the race via the Red Bull Holden Racing Team’s Facebook page.
